You may have heard that it’s World Gin Day today, so whether you want to celebrate it in style or you’re simply looking for a cool bar to enjoy your Saturday drinks, here are my favourite gin bars in London.
The Oliver Conquest
70 Leman Street, London E1 8EU
My new favourite gin bar! I’ve visited the OC Pub and Gin house in heart of Whitechapel only recently and was impressed to find such a cosy atmosphere and an impressive gin selection just by the City. The pub is family run, they serve food and distil their very own delicious, aromatic and floral gin. Ah, they also have board games so it’s the ideal place to chill with you closest gin-friends.
Holborn Dining Room and Delicatessen
High Holborn, London WC1V 7EN
Probably the grandest of the four. If you’re looking to impress someone who loves gin this stylish copper-topped bar in Holborn won’t disappoint. However, expect to enjoy only a few marvellous G&T here (and even special oaky old fashions) and continue your celebrations elsewhere if you don’t want to break the bank. Everything looks cool in this bar, from the furniture to the gin menu aka gin-bible (Amen!) and the staff of gin connoisseurs that are always ready to help you with inspiring recommendations. I asked them to adopt/hire me, but this would imply working weekends and we couldn’t find a deal!
4 Golden Square, Soho, London W1F 9HT
If you’re reading my Gin O’Clock section regularly, you should know how I much I like this edgy bar in Soho. What amazed me about the Graphic Bar is the passion of its staff and their constant strive to experiment new combinations and cocktails. They have also revamped their gin-collection recently, so I should really plan a trip to Soho as soon as possible. If you can’t go Today, I recommend trying one of their Gin Socials or the Gin-Off.
Mr Fogg’s Tavern
58 St. Martin’s Lane, London WC2N 4EA
If you fancy a different experience and perhaps stepping in another century for a few hours, you should head to Mr Fogg’s gin parlour. The Tavern is themed around explorer Phileus Fogg, and also serves a great English food. The staff is dressed up and always go the extra mile to help you find the perfect gin for the occasion.
