Kip Berman’s The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart have released their latest cut, ‘My Only’, off the forthcoming new album ‘The Echo Of Pleasure’, due out next week (September 1st) on Painbow. The new track follows up to ‘When I Dance With You’, and ‘Anymore’, the first two singles taken from the fifth studio album to be released soon.
‘My Only’ encompasses all the necessary elements of a typical Pains’ song, drawing immediate comparisons to a sweeter version of The Jesus And Mary Chains. Delicate guitars in delay, an incisive bass line and female vocals elevate the track to an hymn to love and happiness in their more mature and grown-up versions. Said Berman about the track on its Billboard‘s premiere: “‘My Only’ is a song I started a long time ago, but wasn’t old enough to finish. I still don’t know if I’m old enough but it’s finished. The song is the opposite of what a single should be – it’s sprawling and unconcerned with immediateness – because it’s about something that isn’t immediate.”
