Melina Duterte, aka Jay Som, has shared a new track – ‘Pirouette’ – announcing the release of a 7” of the same name, under Polyvinyl Records, as part of an A-side (together with another track, ‘O.K., Meet Me Underwater.’) set to be out on January 26th. The new haunting track is a leftover from the sessions that brought to life her outstanding 2017’s album ‘Everybody Works’, which made it into our Top 10 albums of last year (here).
Described as a number that comes out of chaos spirals, ‘Pirouette’ showcases a confessional tone and those arrangements that made Jay Som’s last album one of the most interesting things in a long time. Duterte states about the new song: “Both of these tracks were made during the spring of 2016 – the first demo stages for Everybody Works. They were fun to write and record but felt out of place on the track list during the finalization of the album. These tracks remain close to my heart and I’m really grateful they’re finally out in the world”.
